INTACT & Hair Beauty

INTACT features a unique blend of emollients and humectants that help maintain the moisture balance of hair without weighing hair down or creating buildup. The characteristics of this blend which is high in coconut fatty acids, helps the cuticle lay flat, reflecting light for enhanced shine. Coconut fatty acids also help retain moisture and can penetrate and nourish the hair due to its low molecular weight.

Hair is left feeling light, full of body, bounce and shine. INTACT gives you ALL the benefits of the best volume hair products in just one product, after just one use.

Simple. No nonsense. Real results. Clean formula. Free of sulfates, phthalates, silicones, oils, SD-alcohol and gluten.

Hair Beauty - It's All in the Cuticle

The cuticle is the first line of defense as the outer layer of the hair shaft. Its job is to protect the cortex, the inner layer of your hair, which gives it shape and strength. It is essential to have a strong and healthy cuticle for strong and healthy hair. The cuticle is made of keratin protein scales that overlap and lock in moisture. Healthy hair has a thin, outer lipid layer that is hydrophobic – meaning it repels water.

A closed cuticle keeps moisture in and reflects light for shine. A closed cuticle also reduces breakage and friction. Dry brittle hair means the cuticle is more open and the hair is losing moisture. Soft and shiny hair means the cuticle is closed and is retaining moisture.

Shiny hair products are often used to help produce the look of an intact, healthy cuticle.

Porosity & Hair Beauty

Damaged hair with the cuticle lifted may have holes, scaling and cracks and is often referred to as porous hair. High porosity hair may look dry and dull due to open cuticles. This type of “weathered” hair does not reflect light well and may have split ends and breakage. More porous hair has a difficult time retaining moisture.

Moisture & Hair Beauty

Maintaining a healthy moisture balance is essential to having healthy-looking hair and protecting the integrity of the cuticle. A moisturizer must improve or maintain hydration. There are three categories of moisturizers:

Occlusive – Acts like a seal and physically prevents water loss.

Humectants – Attract moisture to the hair and make the hair softer, more elastic and less brittle.

Emollients – Smooth the cuticle and repel moisture, providing a protective shield. Too many emollients can weigh hair down; too little emollients cause dehydration, static and increased frizz.

The Quest for Volume

Volume is pretty much every girl’s dream when it comes to the idea of healthy-looking hair. Fullness, bounce, body and thickness all go hand in hand with va-va-voom volume. Unfortunately, many of us fall short on volume and we play tricks layering hair volume products with our hair to fake it.

Products laden with polymers, talc, silicones and blends of ingredients we can’t say or spell that hold and lift the hair away from the scalp, may fix a short-term problem but create a vicious cycle. Hair gets weighed down from silicones and product buildup. Alcohol dries out strands. We upset the natural moisture balance by over-washing and stripping the hair - remember that precious outer lipid layer? Then we wonder why it’s flat, dry, breaking and lackluster.

INTACT works in a completely different way and that's why it's the best volumizing product. Hair gets a volume lift at the root from the formula’s patented Root Securing Complex, which awakens the hair follicle much like the action of a goose bump, creating a natural volume boosting effect on the hair. Coupled with care and attention to moisturizing and protecting the cuticle, INTACT enhances body, volume, shine and softness.

Healthier hair starts by keeping it INTACT.

Hair Shedding or Hair Loss
What’s the Difference?

Due to the multitude of factors that may contribute to hair loss and the many kinds of hair loss conditions, it can be overwhelming to understand this complex issue. Even understanding the difference between hair shedding and hair loss can be difficult as this terminology is often used interchangeably. Let’s take a closer look at how they do indeed differ.

Hair Shedding

Normal hair shedding is considered 50-150 strands a day. At times, and due to certain life changes or practices, we may experience more hair fall. When the body sheds hair excessively, this is called Telogen Effluvium. Typically, this type of hair shedding is temporary and can be resolved once the cause is addressed. Hair will go back to its normal growth cycle in 6-9 months.

Hair Shedding Triggers

• Acute stress
• Sickness with high fever
• Giving birth
• Rapid weight loss / crash dieting
• Having an operation

Hair Loss

Hair loss on the other hand is when hair stops growing. This type of hair loss is called Anagen Effluvium. Hereditary hair loss, auto-immune disorders and drugs, medical treatments or certain health disorders will trigger anagen effluvium. A dermatologist can help you determine if you have hair loss or excessive hair shedding and can put you on the right path to resolving your condition.

Hair Loss Triggers

• Genetic hair loss, called Female Pattern Hair Loss
• Immune disorders
• Permanent Traction Alopecia
• Trichotillomania – disorder where one pulls their own hair out
• Chemotherapy-induced alopecia
